2012级高一阮韵玄等8名同学在《二十一世纪报》英语读写大赛中获奖

2013年2月，我校高一年级英语备课组利用寒假时间组织学生阅读英语报纸《二十一世纪报》并参加“二十一世纪杯”英语读写大赛。在老师的指导下，学生认真阅读报纸，完成了相关阅读题的回答并根据报社所出的题目写了英语短文两篇。完成读写任务后学生利用网络将所写的英语短文发给英语老师，由英语老师选送参加比赛。

经《二十一世纪报》评选，高一年级共8名同学获得了全国及省级奖励。其中高一（6）班阮韵玄同学荣获全国一等奖，是云南省唯一获得此项殊荣的学生。具体获奖情况如下。

What are the influences of mobile phones on human relationship?

    The mobile phone has already become an indispensable device in our life, which influences our life a lot. But just like other things, mobile phones have their own advantages and disadvantages. How to use them properly is truly a problem for us.
Nowadays, almost every person has his or her own mobile phone. On the one hand, by using mobile phones we can make phone calls and send messages to our family and friends who are in distant places. This helps us a great deal, because it enables us to maintain communication and relationship. On the other hand, we also use our mobile phones to surf the Internet, taking care of our microblogs, or even play games. This may make us addicted and we may gradually drift apart from people around us.

With the development of applications for android and IOS, people spend more time and more money on downloading handy applications and using them. We can find friends who have the same hobbies with us by discussing things of common interest online, but some people may use this to cheat people or even hurt them. There is no doubt that it is a big trouble.
But mobile phones are just tools. To my understanding, how to use them depends on us. So it’s necessary for us to try to improve our ability to tell good from evil. Self-control ability is also important for us to use mobile phones rationally. I think if we can always think twice before using our mobile phones, we will make better use of them and will benefit a lot more from using them.

What do you think makes a novel classic?

Whenever we read a classic novel, we are always attracted by the fantastic story and the writer’s twist of the wrist. After we read the novel we can always acquire something fascinating from it. So what makes a novel classic? I think there are basically two factors.

First, a classic novel must be based on reality, and it must reflect some realistic problems people are faced with. A good example is The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I bet most of us are familiar with this novel. Although some stories in these books are not true, it was based on a true period of Chinese history, and most of its characters are related to historical figures and are made lifelike. Ancient Chinese people’s wisdom is very well reflected in this novel.

Second, a classic novel must display good things that most people value, such as love, peace, freedom, justice etc. Through the ages people have been writing about these in books, songs, and drawing them in pictures … A classic novel should include these, too, even in tragedies. Although tragedies are sad, they are a cry for upright things people find difficult to obtain. More often than not, a tragic story may be more inspiring and more thought-provoking than one with a happy theme.
