2015年赴美交流学生高耀悦发回访美第一印象
在来到美国阿拉斯加州Sitka市之前，有人告诉我它寒冷、偏僻。所幸，这些从未动摇我的决心。随着飞机降落到地面的那一刻，八月闷热的空气一扫而空，迎面而来的是空气的清新与微凉。作为云大附中高中学生的代表，我即将在Sitka市的Mt.Edgecumbe高中就读一学年。
我在MEHS——云大附中姊妹学校
作为整个阿拉斯加州教育质量最好的高中，这里汇集了来自四面八方的同学们。这里的上课方式和中国截然不同。我的第一节课是“技能课”。开始我们玩的游戏是“马过河”，放一片纸片在脚下，然后就着纸片踩过去。这个过程中你的脚不能离开纸片，要是不幸离开那么就退出游戏了。一个人过去，另一个人接上，也不能有任何间隔。开始我们按照老师说的去做，可是很快就发现因为每个人的步伐大小、反应速度不同，根本就不可能完成！美国学霸们就开始商量了。因为规则是只要碰到那个白纸片的区域就可以，所以他们过去第一个推到纸片边缘，接着第二个、第三个都重复着相同的动作。但我仍不清楚他们的规则，见我要像开始一样过去时，他们连忙制止了我。见我还在不明白，也没叫其他人先过去，而是仍一遍一遍地给我解释，我被这样的合作精神和行为感动了。最后在大家的配合下一起过了这条“河”。这个游戏叫做“合作与变通”。我喜欢这样的上课方式！

我们有许多丰富多彩的课余活动。给我印象最深的当然是“Ladies volleyball”。这所学校的排球战队在整个阿拉斯加州都数一数二的呢！友好学校Sitka High School来Mt.Edgecumbe高中打球时，所有人都扮成土著，将床单裹在身上，脸上画了我们的幸运色——红色和黄色，一起到体育场里面给排球队的勇士们加油。我们全程站在凳子上，虽然两个小时，但没有人坐过一下。每当我们赢球时，我们就会统一鼓掌然后说“See ya! Sit High!”胜一局，我们也会跳我们的校舞并且说着“What? What? What?”所有人都在给排球队员们呐喊助威。

Mt.Edgecumbe高中是个充满惊喜的地方。你可以去Culture Room里制作自己的服装，顺便喝上一杯热巧克力；也可以到健身房挥洒汗水，再问问教练你要怎么减肥；还可以到图书馆静静地坐在柔软的沙发上读上一本英文原著；更可以坐在海边看着繁忙的船穿梭其中；甚至还可以自己去到海中撑一艘皮划艇，徜徉在洒满阳光的海面上……

以上就是我对到访的美国学校的第一印象。我只希望时光慢些，让我在这里慢慢成长。Go Braves!
Before I came to Sitka, somebody has told me it was a freezing, remote island; however, I still didn’t change my mind to come here. The weather in China is always hot in August, but over here I can feel the fresh air as a frosty nip. The American students come from all over Alaska. And Mt. Edgecumbe High School is one of the top high schools in Alaska.
The classes here are totally different from what we have in China. My first class is technical ability course. We played a game as a start. In Chinese, we can call this game “Ma Guo He”. First of all, you should put a piece of paper on the floor. Then, you’re supposed to put your shoes on that paper. During this process, you can’t get your shoes out of that paper. If you do, you’re out! One person goes, and then another one continues. You also cannot fall off the paper pads.
At first, we do this as the teacher said. Suddenly, we realized everyone has different steps and different speed .It seems like this is an impossible mission. Then the leader of the group came up with an idea. One person went to the farthest place and stood on the piece of paper. The other three students repeated the same thing. When it was all done, everybody else could go through the line fast. I was the first person who would go through this line. Because of the language barriers I still didn’t know the rules. When they saw I was doing the wrong thing at first. They asked me to stop. They explained the rules over and over. Eventually, we all went through the line.
This game, we call it “teamwork and be flexibility”. I like this kind of learing style when we are taking a class.
We have lots of activities in our spare time, also known as recreational activities since this happens after school. “Ladies Volleyball” is the activity which gives me the deepest impression. Mt.Edgecumbe High School’s volleyball is the strongest in Alaska. When Sitka High School came to our school for a race, all of us dressed in white sheets, painted two lucky lines —— red and yellow —— on our faces to support our team. We stood on the chairs during the two hours. We applauded and yelled, “See ya! Sit High!” every time we got one point. We danced and shouted, “What? What? What?” every time we won a round. Everybody was shouting loudly to encourage the ladies who were in the game.
Mt.Edgecumbe High School is a place where things can always surprise you. You can make your own clothes in the Culture Room while having some hot chocolate, or go to the Gym to exercise with friends, or read a book on the cozy sofa in the library. You can aslo walk along the seaside watching ships busy in the gulf, or go kayaking on the waters and enjoy the sea reflecting sunshine.
This is just my first impression of MEHS. And still I have eight months to go before returning to YUSS. I just want time to go by slowly so that I can enjoy my growth here. I know this is going to be a wonderful experience for me.
